I go away for a week and the world turns upside down. I am sure there has been much commentary on this, but Cardinal Timothy Dolan penned a letter to the White House that breathes conciliation and solidarity. Let's hope that this is an indicator that the USCCB is recognizing the need to take a less harsh and intransigent stance toward the administration, and while there remains complicated legal work to do on the HHS mandate, especially regarding self-insured institutions, there are a range of issues that are also urgent from immigration reform to gun control on which the Church, for the good of society, can work with this White House.
