I suppose we have all done it at least once. You feel the need to say something to appease one person in the room, but you want to re-assure a different person that your words should not be taken at face value. So, you mouth the words, turn to the second person, and give them a knowing wink.
Former Senator Norm Coleman gave one of those winks the other day. Speaking as a Romney surrogate, Coleman assured the crowd that Roe v. Wade wasn't going anywhere. Coleman may be right, he may be wrong. But, there is something profoundly dishonest at work in the Romney campaign and it is shameful that no one in the pro-life movement is calling him out on this. Maybe they think Romney is winking at them, but maybe he is winking at others.
