Shame on House GOP

I understand that many people think the government spends too much money. But, with all the possible places to cut the budget, from subsidies for big oil companies to funding for the arts and NPR (and I like funding for the arts and NPR), why did the leaders of the GOP-controlled House decide that the best way to save money was to cut the food stamps program by $40 billion. Now, in the grand scheme of the federal budget, $40 billion is not a lot of money. So, why - literally - take food out of the mouths of poor people, mostly women and children but also a shockingly large number of veterans? If this does not cause shame, they have no shame.
