Leaders of Catholic colleges and universities want to help the church address the clergy sex abuse crisis. The Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities recently held its annual meeting in Washington, D.C., where the crisis was on the minds of attendees. National correspondent Heidi Schlumpf reports that members "have offered their expertise in service to the church." As one source told Schlumpf: "As leaders of these institutions, we have to make the offer and hope they take us up on it."

One expectation: "The Holy Father will recognize the need for each episcopal conference to develop its own policies, mindful of the varying legal and cultural situations in each country."
