The sycophancy of Raymond Arroyo: Michael Sean Winters sounds off on Arroyo's interview with President Trump, writing, "The politico-theological complex at EWTN embraces and celebrates the very points on which the president diverges from the church's teachings. In this great free country of ours, Raymond Arroyo and EWTN have every right to do so, but let's be clear: They have become political hacks and have forfeited any claim to Catholic orthodoxy."

New York parishioners petition Dolan for a more forceful racism statement: Parishioners of the Church of St. Francis Xavier in New York were let down by Cardinal Timothy Dolan's June 12 letter to the archdiocese. Amid nationwide protests after the killing of George Floyd, they felt that Dolan fell short of taking a strong stand against racism and police brutality. In response, they wrote a June 19 petition to Dolan, calling on the cardinal to "speak boldly."

Catholic university leaders call for their institutions to address systemic racism: Brian Roewe reports, "Heads of nine African American studies programs at Catholic universities are calling their institutions to 'conversion' to take meaningful actions to address systemic racism and more fully support people of color on their campuses."

In "Can U.S. bishops' support of discrimination against LGBT be sustained?" Todd A. Salzman and Michael G. Lawler say, "The U.S. bishops' failure to understand social sin and its impact on perspectives on race, sex and gender contributes to attitudes and actions that directly or indirectly perpetuate the social sins of homophobia, violence and discrimination against members of the LGBT community."
