A couple years back, NCR at editor at large Tom Roberts almost apologetically asked me if he could have some time off because he needed to finish writing the biography of Benedictine Sr. Joan Chittister he had been working on. "Tom," I answered, "take all the time you need. That work will be as important as anything you'd be writing for NCR over the next couple weeks. Go for it."
Tom got the book delivered and Orbis got it published. Now, after seeing the book, I am certain that time was well invested. I think its a book all NCR readers will cherish.
Until you get your own copy, here's a couple of things to tide you over:
- Here's a news report on the launch of the book in Boston, at which author and subject both spoke: New dimensions of Joan Chittister's life feature in biography, author says.
- Here's an excerpt from the book itself: New book details life of Benedictine Sr. Joan Chittister.
- Here's a radio interview with the author. On her radio show, Interfaith Voices, Sr. Maureen Fiedler talks with Tom Roberts about the book, which Fiedler says "gives surprising and heretofore unpublished insights into the life and faith of Benedictine Sister Joan Chittister."
